Subcutaneous (s.c.)

·independent & ad-free

Subcutaneous (s.c.) - An injection into the fatty tissue just under the skin (between skin and muscle) with a short, fine needle. The most common route for peptides.

Also called s.c.scsubqSubQunder the skin

Subcutaneous (abbreviated s.c.) means „under the skin": the injection goes into the fatty tissue between skin and muscle, typically the abdomen or thigh, with a short fine needle (e.g. an insulin syringe).

Why this route

Subcutaneous tissue absorbs the substance slowly and steadily, and the technique is simple and self-administered. For most peptides s.c. is the standard route.

Distinction

Not the same as intramuscular (i.m., into the muscle) - which is deeper and uses a longer needle.
