Lyophilizate

·independent & ad-free

Lyophilizate - A freeze-dried powder. Peptides are lyophilized because, as a dry powder, they stay stable and usable far longer than in solution.

Also called lyophilizedfreeze-drieddry powder

Lyophilization is freeze-drying: a solution is frozen and the water is removed directly from the solid state under vacuum (sublimation). What remains is a dry, often fluffy or cake-like powder - the lyophilizate.

Why peptides are lyophilized

Peptides dissolved in water degrade over time. As a dry powder they are far more stable and can be stored cool for months to years. Only shortly before use is the powder reconstituted (mixed).

What to watch

  • The powder may sit as a thin film on the vial wall or at the bottom - it often looks tiny, which is normal.
  • Store dry, cool and away from light until mixed.

Wording mix-ups

Casually just „the powder"; the adjective is „lyophilized" (also „freeze-dried").
